reading steve hassan's books has brought to mind the many ways jehovah's witnesses use fear and guilt catch phrases to keep the rank and file members from leaving the cult and gaining their freedom.

see if you recognize some of these and if they produce fear or guilt.

How to Endure Meetings Constructively - My Approach

i occasionally attend sunday meetings, either just for curiosity or to placate my dear wife.

i've recently developed a method whereby i tune out all the proceedings from the platform and audience, and take to reading acts (i've just begun to learn a great deal about roman history via audio cds from the teaching company, which i listen to on my long commute to work).

the lecturers on these all highly praise the accuracy of the book of acts and all the gospels in general, in terms of their accurate depiction of life in judea and the hellensitic kingdoms under roman rule.

i'd read the bible at the kh too! got me noticing their craziness and misquotes and misapplictions of scripture. reading the bible alone is a major deadly sin to the wts! one of the reasons i left actually.

wow jer! this is great! i decided to save these. very nice writing. my folks are like yers. my dad never "reached out" and failed when he did. my mom pioneered til i was DFed. i wish college was cheap. i wanna go to an art school too. my art's pretty good. it's at freeza-frost.deviantatcom if you wanna look. :D
